Editorialpolicies2.1 PeerreviewandeditorialpolicyThejournal'sgeneralreviewpolicyistoobtainatleasttwoindependentreviewsofeachfulllengtharticleandatleastoneforshortreportletters.Weuseadouble-blindreviewingprocessinwhichauthors*andreviewers*identitiesareconcealed.Ourreviewersareencouragedtoprovidesubstantive,constructivereviewsthatprovidesuggestionsforimprovingtheworkanddistinguishbetweenmandatoryandnon-mandatoryrecommendations.TheEditorsreservetherighttomakeeditorialandliterarycorrections.Majorrearrangementsorcorrectionswillbemadeonlywiththeapprovalofauthors.Inmostcasestheywillbeofferedasrecommendationstopermitauthorstorewritetheirmaterialinawaythatisacceptabletothejournal.TheEditorialProcessiscollaborativeone.TheEditorswillevaluatethemanuscriptandconsiderthereviewsandformtheirownopinion.AssumingthemanuscriptisnotrejectedtheEditorwillmakesuggestionstotheauthorabouthowtoimprovethemanuscriptandraisequestionsthatneedtobeanswered.Thesuggestionsarenotbinding.Theauthorsmayhavebetteralternativesorwishtoarguetheirpointofview.Allofthisisdonetoimprovethemanuscriptbeforepublication.UltimatelytheEditormaynotbesatisfiedbytheresponsesandrevisionsortheauthorsmaynotbepreparedtochangetheirmanuscriptsufficientlytosatisfytheEditor.Inthesecircumstancesmanyhoursmayhavebeenspentandmanyrevisionsmadeonthemanuscriptwhicheventhenisnotaccepted.Thisisariskofthisprocessbutsomethingwetryhardtoavoid.2.2 EthicalstandardsWeacceptmanuscriptsthatreporthumanand/oranimalstudiesforpublicationonlyifitismadeclearthatinvestigationswerecarriedouttoahighethicalstandard.Studiesinhumanswhichmightbeinterpretedasexperimental(e.g.controlledtrials)shouldconformtotheDeclarationofHelsinkihttp:/WWW2.2.2 ReviewarticlesInvitedreviewarticlesmaybecommissionedfromleadinghandsurgeons.OtherreviewarticlesshouldpreferablybesystematicreviewsandallshouldconformtothePRISMAorsimilarguidelineshttp:WWW.prisma-statement.org/2.2.3 StudiesreportingonnewimplantsThereshouldbeaminimumof2yearsfollow-upfornewimplantsandaminimumof5yearsfollow-upforimplantswhichhavebeeninuseforsometime.Studieswhichdonothaveadequatelengthoffollow-upwillberejected.2.3 AuthorshipPapersshouldonlybesubmittedforconsiderationonceconsentisgivenbyallcontributingauthors.Thosesubmittingpapersshouldcarefullycheckthatallthosewhoseworkcontributedtothepaperareacknowledgedascontributingauthors.Thelistofauthorsshouldincludeallthosewhocanlegitimatelyclaimauthorship.Thisisallthosewho:(i) Madeasubstantialcontributiontotheconceptordesignofthework;oracquisition,analysisorinterpretationofdata,(ii) Draftedthearticleorreviseditcriticallyforimportantintellectualcontent,(iii) Approvedtheversiontobepublished,(iv)
