2、velandisrecommendedbytheWorldHealthOrganizationasaviablemethodforhouseholdwatertreatmentandsafestorage.SODISisalreadyappliedinnumerousdevelopingcountries.Exposuretosunlightusingthisprocesshasbeenshowntodeactivatediarrhoea-causingorganismsinpolluteddrinkingwater.ForSODISzcolourless,transparentPETwate
3、rorpopbottles(2litreorsmallersize)withfewsurfacescratchesarechosenforuse.Thelabelsareremovedandthebottlesarewashedbeforethefirstuse.Waterfromcontaminatedsourcesispouredintothebottles,and,toimproveoxygensaturation,thebottlesarefilledtothethree-quartermark,shakenfor20seconds(withthecapon),thenfilledco
4、mpletelyandrecapped.Verycloudywaterwithaturbidityhigherthan30NTUmustbefilteredpriortoexposuretothesunlight.Thefilledbottlesarethenexposedtothesun.Thebottlesheatfasterandtohighertemperaturesiftheyareplacedonaslopedsun-facingcorrugatedmetalroofascomparedtothatchedroofs.Thetreatedwatercanbeconsumeddire
